Meet Betty McMenamy

Betty McMenamy 4.jpg

She holds a Master's degree in Social Work and is currently completing two certifications that have become central to her work. The first is the Río Abierto System, a two-year certification in psycho-corporeal and transpersonal techniques rooted in expressive vital movement, somatic awareness, and creative expression as tools for human transformation. The second is Somatic Coaching, a body-centered approach that works with sensations, posture, and movement to facilitate deep and lasting change, helping people reconnect with the wisdom their body already carries.

This integrated perspective, combining clinical social work training with somatic and movement-based practice, shapes everything she creates.

For years, Betty walked beside women and families as they learned to live with more awareness, compassion, and truth. That work taught her that healing is not only a cognitive process. It lives in the body, in our stories, in our relationships, and in the quiet moments when we finally allow ourselves to be seen.

She knows what it means to carry shame in silence. She carried it herself, buried beneath perfectionism, comparison, and the exhausting effort of trying to fit in. What slowly changed her life was learning to turn toward herself with compassion first. Only from there could she begin to open up to others, to stop hiding, and to let herself be seen.

She lives in Virginia with her husband. Her daughter, now 21, lives in North Carolina, and their nine-year-old Yorkie divides her time between both homes.

Testimonials

"In this journal, the author invites us to visit, gently and compassionately, an emotion that is often forgotten or ignored by most of us: shame. More than a journal, it is a respectful and understanding way to, step by step, give name to it and work through it using that wonderful resource that is writing, with its therapeutic effects. This is not just something to read. It is a journal of self-discovery, a manual for inner self-repair. I see it as a resource of general value, but also as an excellent companion for those already in psychotherapy. This journal, written by Betty McMenamy, will surely help many people become healthier and more resilient.".
